If your organization runs multiple sites, you may have noticed odd behavior when switching among them:  when you login to the second site without logging out of the first site, you are sometimes re-directed back to a page on the first site even though logged-in to the second site.

This is caused by the way cookies are used to maintain login persistence and also to set access permissions (parents vs. registrars vs. webmasters).  The simple solution is to log out of the first site before logging in to the second site.  The cookie is destroyed when you log out, so your browser won't be confused by a second cookie from a similar source.

The reason this doesn't happen every time is because cookies only "live" for one hour, so if you had allowed an hour to lapse between leaving one site and logging in to another, the cookie would be gone, just as if you had logged out.
